American Art Collector features an Article on Michelle Dunaway's solo exhibition of new works at InSight Gallery in the Nov Issue

Michelle's painting 'The Artist-Portrait of Katie Whipple' will be on display at the American Masters Invitational exhibition and sale at the prestigeous and historic Salmagundi Club in NY. There will be an artist reception and purchase by draw on the evening of Oct 13 th. Michelle wil be in attendance. The opening evening reception is a ticketed event, you may obtain tickets through the Salmagundi Club's website 

Michelle paintings will be part of the American's in Paris Invitational Bi -Coastal Exhibit at the Salmagundi Club in NY and Laguna Beach CA . Presented and curated by VRFA Gallery 

Opening reception in NY April 28 th. Michelle Dunaway and Michael Klein will also give a painting demonstration together at the club  on April 29 th from 7-9 pm 

The idea for Americans in Paris (AIP) is the brainchild of Vanessa Rothe. It began with a purpose to inspire contemporary American artists to travel to Paris and discover exciting ideas for their works of art in a place where historically so many important artists had found inspiration and formed connections. Following in the footsteps of the great American painters before them, such as Sargent, Whistler and Cassatt to name a few, a group of American realist and impressionist artists would travel to Paris to draw inspiration from the City of Light, architecture and fine art. There they would attend museums, examine the masters, absorb the culture, share ideas and paint together with the goal of reaching the next level of mastery in their work.

To raise capital for the trip, Rothe curated an exhibition at the Salmagundi Club in New York in the spring of 2016, where twelve invited American artists sold work and were able to fund their travel. The initial visit to Paris was created as a workshop, May 2017, organized by Rothe where the artists were able to study valuable art history. In addition, Sean Forester from the Golden Gate Atelier spoke on the humanities and gave his notes on group composition.

The twelve AIP artists painted in Paris together and at the Grande Chaumière Atelier for a week as they filled their sketchbooks and minds with ideas, some new and some inspired by the past. Echoing the ‘salons’ of the past, the AIP artists engaged in lively evening discussions based on specific topics, like earlier creative groups had done, such as the Impressionists or Hemingway and Fitzgerald’s writing gatherings held in Paris bistros and bars years before.

In spring 2018 it was time to show the result of their experiences with some new and exciting paintings. Rothe curated and organized two bi-continental exhibitions at the foremost galleries for Realism in America and France. These showcased the AIP artists’ original works by inspired by their stay in France, from Paris nocturnes to Louis XIV interiors, from winged figures and florals by the masters to figures in the landscape and from the literature and group discussions held in Paris. The first of these exhibitions was held at Arcadia Contemporary in Los Angeles, CA, April 2018 and the second at Galerie Prince de L’Oeil in Paris, France, May 2018. Both were met with great success.  

Now in spring 2020, the journey continues. Americans in Paris joins up with Workshops in France to present to you an exciting workshop opportunity and unique art experience on a traditional château estate in Provence, France, September 27-October 6th 2020. The trip includes art instruction with five of the Americans in Paris artists and re-creating for you, much of what was shared and learned that week in Paris 2017. You are now invited to be a part of an unforgettable experience that will continue to inspire the artist and art lover alike.

Michelle's painting and a new interview is in the April/ May 2016 issue of International Artist magazine along with other faculty members of the Portrait Society of America 

This November, in partnership with the Denver Public Library, Gallery 1261 presents Legacy, an exhibition of works by some of the most prominent painters working in the field of realism today such as Jeremy Lipking, Richard Schmid, Michelle Dunaway, David Kassan, Sadie Valerie, Jeffery Hein , Juliette Aristides and others. Curated by Anthony Waichulis this historic exhibition aims to not only highlight these artists’ immense skill and talent but acknowledge their major contributions in the field of art education as well.

Michelle's painting 'The Artist' A portrait of her friend and fellow artist Katie Whipple, has won a Certificate of Excellence from the Portrait Society of America in it's annual International competition.

Michelle's work and a new Interview with other faculty of The Portrait Society Of America conference is in the  Feb/March 2017 issue of International Artist 

Michelle's painting is featured in the Masters Showcase section of International Artist Oct / Nov  2016 issue as well as an article "Interconnectedness" which features some of her writing. Featuring progression photos from when she did a study from an original John Singer Sargent painting at the Boston Museum of Fine Art, the article addresses the importance of painting master copies

Join Artists Michelle Dunaway and Daniel J Keys for an evening painting demonstration at the Florence Studio in Florence Italy. This will be a two hour demo painting the portrait in the alla prima method. Michelle and Daniel will paint from the same model and discuss their technique. A  prosecco reception will follow to visit and talk with the artists. Space is limited to 22 attendees ,cost is 100 Euro. Register online with the Florence Studio to attend this upcoming evening event.

Michelle will be giving two painting demonstrations during the Portrait Society of America's annual portrait conference. One will be a main stage demonstration and she will also participate in the 'Face-Off ' event that opens the conference. Michelle will also be part of a panel discussion with artists Susan Lyon , Scott Burdick , Daniel Keys, Kathy Anderson , and Molly Schmid where they will discuss the importance of  mentoring in the arts in honor of Richard Schmid receiving the lifetime achievement award for excellence in education.

2017

Michelle will be giving a portrait painting demonstration open to the  public at the Salmagundi Club in NYC in conjunction with the Realism Without Borders Invitational show 

Michelle is the featured artist of the Chattanooga Portrait Academy, October 27 - 28, 2017. This 3 day event will feature demos, lectures and a panel discussion . Register through The Portrait Society of America

Michelle Dunaway's painting 'Reverence' is a top finalist and award winner  at the Portrait Society of America's  Art of the Portrait international competition. Juried into the top 25 finalists out of 2,400 worldwide entries.

Michelle Dunaway and Susan Lyon will be giving a portrait painting demonstration at the Scottsdale Az Museum of the West. Their model will be sculptor and artist John Coleman !  Jan 27 th 5:30-8 pm  . Tickets must be purchased in advance at the Scottsdale Artist School
